State lawmakers want voters to let them raid a fund that is supposed to provide special programs for early childhood development.
Governors and education leaders on Wednesday proposed sweeping new school standards that could lead to students across the country using the same math and English textbooks and taking the same tests, replacing a patchwork of state and local systems in an attempt to raise student achievement nationwide.
Gov. Jan Brewer today announced that with or without the federal government, Arizona will continue to move forward with its aggressive and innovative plans for education reform.
Most school districts can breathe a sigh of relief after the majority of voters throughout Maricopa County passed budget overrides, early election results showed Tuesday.

This time, it passed. Flagstaff Unified School District's second budget override attempt in four months found decisive support Tuesday, with about 54 percent of the 16,915 ballots cast. That's well ahead of the election in November 2009, when supporters could muster just 48 percent of the vote in a losing effort.
